Author Biography
Beryl Cahoon grew up in a small farming community in the Columbia Basin. When she moved to the city to attend college, she missed the small town lifestyle in which everyone knew what everyone else was doing. One afternoon on the way to the mail box she asked God where she should be and what type of work she should be doing. The mail carrier rolled down her car window and yelled, “You have to go to work for the Postal Service.” Beryl didn’t’ know the woman but she knew what she suddenly felt within herself.
She had never considered working for the Postal Service. A few weeks later the Postal test was given in a large auditorium, but she was suddenly too sick to get out of bed. She asked God how she was to obey Him if she is too sick to take the first step to getting the job.
That evening, in the cat food isle of the grocery store, a stranger kindly suggested she buy a different brand of cat food. Beryl mentioned missing the Postal Service Test and having a terrible cold.
The woman said, “Don’t worry. You didn’t miss a thing. I gave that test today. There are three thousand people ahead of you. I’ll tell you how to get on ahead of all of them.”
Today, Beryl is a career Postal Clerk in a small Alaskan community.
